Dr. Yuro Ihns · Kootenay Smile Studio · Castlegar, BC
Straighter teeth, without the gooi impressions.
Dr. Ihns uses the iTero Lumina® digital scanner to start your Invisalign® treatment, and to show you a simulated preview of how your smile could look before you commit.
- No impression trays. A small wand takes a 3D scan of your teeth. Nothing to bite into, and no goop.
- See a possible outcome first. A digital simulation shows how your teeth might move, right there in the chair.
- Clear and removable. Aligners are hard to notice and come out for eating, brushing and flossing.
- A plan you understand. Dr. Ihns walks you through each step, the timeline and the cost before you begin.
How it works
- Consultation and exam. Dr. Ihns checks your teeth, gums and bite, listens to what you'd like to change and lets you know if Invisalign is a good option for you.
- Digital scan. The iTero Lumina scanner records a detailed 3D model of your teeth in minutes. You can watch it build on the screen.
- Preview your possible results. Together, you'll look at a simulation of how your teeth could move. It's a planning tool, not a promise, but it helps you picture the process.
- Custom treatment plan. Dr. Ihns fine-tunes your plan, and your custom aligners are made to match it.
- Wear your aligners. You switch to a new set on the schedule Dr. Ihns gives you. Most people wear them about 20–22 hours a day.
- Regular check-ins. Short visits let Dr. Ihns track your progress and make changes if needed.
- Keep your results. Once treatment is done, a retainer helps hold your teeth in their new positions.
Who it's for
Invisalign may suit you if you:
- Have crowding, spacing or certain bite concerns
- Want a less noticeable option than traditional braces
- Are ready to wear your aligners consistently, most of the day
- Have healthy gums, or are willing to get gum concerns treated first
Not every case is right for clear aligners. If Invisalign isn't the right fit for you, Dr. Ihns will tell you and explain your other options.
FAQs
Does the scan hurt?
No. The scanner wand is about the size of a large toothbrush, and it simply passes over your teeth. Most people find it much more comfortable than impression trays. You can take breaks whenever you like.
Will the preview show exactly how my teeth will end up?
The simulation shows a planned outcome, but it isn't a guarantee. Actual results depend on things like how your teeth respond and how consistently you wear your aligners. Dr. Ihns will talk with you about realistic expectations.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on what we're correcting. Simple cases can be shorter, and more complex ones take longer. Dr. Ihns will give you an estimated timeline after your scan and exam. [Mild cases 3-6 months, moderate cases 9-18 months, complex cases case be 18-24 months.]
Do aligners hurt?
You may feel pressure or mild soreness for a day or two when you switch to a new set. That's normal and usually settles quickly.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Cost depends on your treatment plan. You'll get a clear estimate before you start. [We offer monthly payment plans, and are currently looking into adding outside financing through Lendcare.] Our team can also help you check what your dental insurance may cover.
Can I eat and drink normally?
Yes. Take your aligners out to eat or to drink anything other than water, then brush before you put them back in.
