Book with Dr. Ihns

Dr. Yuro Ihns · Kootenay Smile Studio · Castlegar, BC

Your crown, done in one visit.

With CEREC® technology, Dr. Ihns can scan, design, mill and place a custom crown in a single appointment, so you leave with your final crown the same day.

  • One appointment. No need to book a second visit to have your crown placed.
  • No temporary crown. No wearing a temporary for weeks and hoping it stays put.
  • No impression goop. A digital scan replaces impression trays.
  • Made for your tooth. Your crown is designed digitally to fit your bite and colour-matched to your natural teeth.

How it works

  1. Exam and prep. Dr. Ihns checks the tooth and explains why a crown is recommended. Then the area is frozen and the tooth is gently prepared.
  2. Digital scan. A small scanner captures a 3D image of the prepared tooth and the teeth around it.
  3. Design. Dr. Ihns designs your crown on screen to match the shape of your tooth and your bite. You're welcome to watch.
  4. Mill. An in-office milling unit carves your crown from a solid block of ceramic. You can relax while it's made.
  5. Seat. Dr. Ihns checks the fit and your bite, makes any fine adjustments and bonds the crown into place.
  6. Head home. You leave with your final crown, and there's no second appointment to book.

Who it's for

A same-day crown may be a good option if you:

  • Have a cracked, broken or heavily filled tooth
  • Need a crown after a root canal treatment
  • Want to avoid a temporary crown and a second visit
  • Have a busy schedule, or a long drive to Castlegar

Same-day crowns aren't right for every tooth or every situation. Dr. Ihns will let you know if a CEREC crown is the right choice for you, or if another option would serve you better.

FAQs

Is a same-day crown as good as one made in a lab?

CEREC crowns are made from durable ceramic materials and designed to fit precisely. Like any crown, how long it lasts depends on your bite, your habits and how well you care for it. Dr. Ihns will talk with you about which material and approach make the most sense for your tooth.

Will I need freezing?

Usually, yes. The tooth is frozen while it's being prepared, so you should feel pressure but not pain. If you're nervous, let us know and we'll take things slowly and can discuss options.

How long is the appointment?

It's longer than a typical filling visit, but it replaces two separate appointments. [Placeholder: typical appointment length is 1.5-2 hours.] Feel free to bring headphones or something to watch.

Will my crown match my other teeth?

Dr. Ihns selects a ceramic shade to blend with your natural teeth, and can fine-tune the colour.

Can every crown be done in one day?

Not always. Some situations, like certain gum conditions, very deep damage or specific material needs, may call for a different approach. You'll know your options before you start.

Does insurance cover same-day crowns?

Many dental plans cover crowns, but coverage varies. Our team is happy to help you check your plan. [Placeholder: insurance/direct billing details.]
